Technological Advances in Evolution

“Damien, did your science book tell you there is no god?” – Challenger My response, No, science books do not say dragons or fairies don’t exist either, as they only focus on what does exist and strive to understand and find the natural explanations for the world. The pretechnological period, in which all other animal species remain today aside from some avian and primate species was a non-rational period of the early prehistoric man. The emergence of technology, including art and sacred rituals made possible by the development of the rational faculty, paved the way for the first stage providing a mechanical advantage in accomplishing desired tasks. The process of technological evolution culminates with the ability to achieve all the material values technologically possible and desirable by mental effort. Anthropologists and sociologists often assume that human beings have natural social tendencies and that particular human social behaviours have non-genetic causes and dynamics (i.e. they are learned in a social environment and through social interaction). Societies exist in complex social environments (i.e. with natural resources and constraints) and adapt themselves to these environments. It is thus inevitable that all societies change. Specific theories of social or cultural evolution often attempt to explain differences between coeval societies, by positing that different societies have reached different stages of development. Although such theories typically provide models for understanding the relationship between technologies, social structure or the values of a society, they vary as to the extent to which they describe specific mechanisms of variation and change. No, Humans are Not that Special

Humans like to think they are above all creations but studies showed that our primate cousins possess unexpected cognitive skill an extraordinary depth and complexity that should expand our thinking not just of them but the other hominids that started and flourished into our family tree leading to us today. Chimpanzees exhibit altruistic food sharing, reasoned thought, abstraction and a concept of self, in fact a study shows in some ways chimpanzees are more intelligent than us. Gorillas exhibit empathy and social welfare such as destroying snares and poaching traps. Even lemurs who are not as intelligent as gorillas or chimpanzees partake death rituals. Therefore, can we now see that even the earliest beings in our human linage may have been capable of more extraordinary human depth and complexity than most could have even imagined. Humans like to think all their behaviors are special but often this is somewhat egotistical and over inflated. For instance one primate study that showed male monkeys’ willingness to sacrifice or pay (with cherry juice) to see female monkeys’ genitals. Monkey porn as it where sounds a lot like a general motivation of primates to look at sexy pictures only different in method of payment where for us its money and in this study of monkeys it was cherry juice. Likewise non-human primates can be said to exhibit at several Humanlike Behaviors such as expressing NO (such as head shaking), laughter, face and expression recognition, showing stress and stress reduction behaviors, using complex tools (even as sex toys), exhibit gender awareness (even in preferring gender specific toys) as well as many others. Remember all...
